Human Resources Manager

The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates. Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School. Children aged 18 months onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups. In addition to an outstanding academic education, GESS strives to teach students community values such as respect, openness and inclusion. Currently, more than 1600 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located in a popular residential area at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve and with very good access to the public transport system.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage and oversee all GESS recruitment requirements including attraction, selection, policies, procedures and budget.
  • Identify and develop new recruitment channels and assessment tools to build talent pipeline of premium candidates to sustain our pedagogical staffing needs (short term and long term).
  • Managing recruitment and act as internal consultant to Heads of Pedagogical Sections with regards to understanding recruitment/selection practices in diverse regions and markets when looking to attract teachers to GESS (German and non-German speaking).
  • Support the Director of HR in implementing staffing plans for each Pedagogical section to ensure correct level of resource and high-quality applicants.
  • To partner and manage existing recruitment agencies to deliver expected recruitment services.
  • Deliver high quality, integrated resourcing strategy for the recruitment of teaching and supporting roles at all levels.
  • To manage the planning and preparation for any GESS recruitment event
  • To provide training and support to all staff responsible for recruitment including best practice models.
  • Implement a robust criteria-based selection processes aligned with our Mission and Vision.
  • Constantly review selection methods and criteria, policies and procedures and the current working practices to ensure the best practice approach is in use.
  • Ensure legal requirements are adhered to for selection purposes (stay abreast of all legislative updates and how they impact recruitment decisions).
  • Produce reports for the Director of HR on all aspects of resourcing, vacancies, staff turnover and recruitment costs.
  • Creation of a standard suite of reports (talent acquisition) to meet the needs of the Principal and the Board of Governors.
  • Support the implementation of an HRIS solution and relevant processes.
  • Contribute to wider HR strategy including onboarding and induction.
  • Other related tasks, duties or projects assigned by the Director of HR.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Degree education
  • Experience of recruiting teachers and middle level support positions.
  • Experience in a lead in-house recruiter role.
  • Ability to use and develop the recruitment Applicant tracking system.
  • Led complex change projects with small teams and been accountable for project deliverables.
  • Experience of understanding the reporting needs and producing the MI reports required.
  • Strong event management and logistics capability.
  • Knowledge of the Education sector will be an advantage.
Technical and Soft Skills:
  • Demonstrable experience in managing recruitment campaigns.
  • Conducting interviews at all levels.
  • Attraction, employer brand methodology and direct sourcing techniques.
  • Experience in implementing a direct resourcing model.
  • Knowledge of best practices in recruitment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, build relationships at all levels and across different cultures.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Prepared to deal with confrontation.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to take on multiple tasks, proactive and able to prompt others to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated and enthusiastic.
