The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates. Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School. Children aged 18 months onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups. In addition to an outstanding academic education, GESS strives to teach students community values such as respect, openness and inclusion. Currently, more than 1600 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located in a popular residential area at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve and with very good access to the public transport system.

To support the main teacher during swimming lessons. The ASI will help teach and coach our Primary School students to develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water.

  • To plan and deliver lessons, ensuring adherence to the values and vision of GESS
  • Ensure safe provision of all equipment and its correct use
  • Ensure safety standards are followed in sessions and undertake risk assessments when needed
  • Identify participants’ abilities and encourage them to reach their full potential
  • Plan and deliver sessions appropriate to the level of swimmer, following the guidance of the main teacher
  • Provide effective explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques
  • Identify and correct faults in swimming techniques, and provide ways to improve performance
  • To be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children to participate in swimming
  • Set ground rules for each session
  • Evaluate sessions and give feedback when required
  • Regularly assess each participant’s ability and progress, and share these with the main teacher and the Aquatics Coordinator
  • Work alongside the Aquatics Coordinator and other Swimming Teachers/Coaches
  • Possible CCA involvement as directed by the Head of Sports
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming
  • Effective communicator
  • The ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers
  • Perseverance and patience
  • The ability to calm and encourage young students 
  • An understanding of (or a willingness to learn) how to differentiate for multiple levels in a coaching session
  • Swimming Certification from a recognised institution
