Early Intervention Specialist (preschool)

The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates. Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School. Children aged 18 months onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups. In addition to an outstanding academic education, GESS strives to teach students community values such as respect, openness and inclusion. Currently, more than 1600 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located in a popular residential area at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve and with very good access to the public transport system.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop respectful and collaborative relationships with parents, teachers, students and the community to foster learning, growth and development in children with diverse learning needs.
  • Identifying children who need additional support within and outside the classroom
  • Promoting understanding and respect for cultural and individual differences within the school community
  • Creating diverse learning environments that benefits all learners, teachers and the community 
  • Creating, maintaining, delivering and reporting on Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students
  • Providing consultancy for Head of Preschool on applications on enrolled students
  • Attending weekly curriculum and staff meetings
  • Attending collaborative meetings with teachers, parents and management
  • Delivering in-house training and workshops on types of learning needs, differentiation in teaching, behaviour management- techniques for the classroom
Requirements:
  • Recognised post-graduate qualification in learning support/ special needs education
  • At least two years’ experience teaching in a classroom environment with theoretical and practical understanding of effective learning and teaching strategies
  • Experience leading a team with vision based on best practice in the field on integration and supporting diverse learning needs
  • Sound understanding of early childhood development
  • Understanding and knowledge of principles of practice and inclusion
  • Good organisational and planning skills and needs to be able to make sound judgements and decisions
  • To be able to work collaboration with a large team
  • Needs to be able to work with and support parents
