School Shop Assistant 
commencing January 2019

The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates. Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School. Children aged 18 months onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups. In addition to an outstanding academic education, GESS strives to teach students community values such as respect, openness and inclusion. Currently, more than 1600 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located in a popular residential area at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve and with very good access to the public transport system.

Responsibilities:

  • Operation of the School shop.
  • Support in further development and maintenance of the shop.
  • Provide assistance to parents, students and visitors as required.
  • Daily opening and closing of cashier.
  • Cash or Nets payment collection of sales.
  • Weekly submittal of cash to Accounting Department.
  • Support in school’s stationary and office supplies management.
  • Support inventory control.
  • Manage purchases on the system as required.
  • Maintain store orderliness at all times.
  • Daily re-stocking of shop shelves and ordering of stock in advance, when required.
  • Stock control: Checking of stocks and keep control of all stocks levels.
  • Liaise with respective departments to ensure accurate information is communicated to all relevant parties.
  • Other supportive administrative tasks as required by the Procurement Executive or Financial Controller.
Requirements:
  • Experience in retail, preferably stationery, office supplies or comparable would be a great advantage
  • Hands-on and self-reliant work attitude
  • Well established negotiating and liaising skills
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills, German language skills not required but would be an additional benefit
  • Self-motivated and open-minded personality with ample cultural awareness and eager to work in a multi-cultural team
  • Available to work during June, July, August as these are the busiest shop times
