The German European School Singapore (GESS) is a multi-lingual, not-for-profit, German international school in Singapore with a distinct European flavour. As an accredited ‘Excellent German School Abroad’, the German Section of GESS offers all major German school leaving certificates. Our European Section offers tuition in English for students from grade 1 - 12 across all three IB programmes (the PYP, the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme) as an authorised IB World School. Children aged 18 months onwards can enroll in our Preschool where children are following the PYP programme in German-speaking, English-speaking or bilingual groups. In addition to an outstanding academic education, GESS strives to teach students community values such as respect, openness and inclusion. Currently, more than 1600 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located in a popular residential area at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve and with very good access to the public transport system.

In 2012, the School set-up a charitable foundation, the “GESS Fund”, its professional fundraising arm whose primary function is fundraising to enhance our students’ experience above and beyond the classroom through corporate, staff and parent giving.

GESS is seeking a Head of Advancement for the GESS Fund to lead the School’s fundraising strategy under the guidance of the GESS Fund Board.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and effective implementation of the fundraising strategy and the recently approved corporate strategy
  • Ensure that the fundraising strategy has explicit goals, milestones and time lines and is aligned with GESS vision
  • Identify, assess and design appropriate strategies for approaching corporate prospects and major donors and make the vitally important match between donors' philanthropic interests and the programmatic and curricular needs
  • Proactively manage a portfolio of 100 or more corporate and major gift prospects and be expected to close five-figure and six-figure gifts and partnerships on a regular basis
  • Launch, execute and effectively manage fundraising campaigns
  • Plan and implement targeted activities & events to enhance prospect identification and move solicitation and stewardship processes forward.
  • Prepare board members, faculty and other volunteers to participate in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts as needed
  • Call on donors regularly for updates, increased commitments, and opportunities to get involved
  • Prepare grant applications / gift proposals for fundraising priorities
  • Ensure proper stewardship of all the donors as defined by the donor recognition policy.
  • Maintain all donor and fund development records up to date in appropriate database
  • Ensure the content of the GESS Fund’s website is up to date
  • Liaise with Marketing & Communication Department to create all collateral fundraising materials including, but not limited to, brochures, campaign flyers and annual appeals
  • Prepare the GESS Fund´s annual plan and budget for the Board´s approval
  • Contribute to newsletters / E-Brief-/ Friday’s weekly issues in relation to fundraising
 
Requirements:
  • Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree.
  • A minimum of five years of successful fundraising experience in a senior capacity in an educational institute or other non-profit organisation or ten years of strongly related work experience (such as sales, marketing, communications, financial planning, etc.)
  • Documented success in soliciting and securing corporate giving and major gifts
  • Understanding of major donor prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Previous experience in identifying new ways to engage individuals with high net worth who are unfamiliar with philanthropy
  • Strong negotiations and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking and to represent an organisation in official visits and events
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills and experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented, multi-cultural environment
  • German language and/or other European language skills to help communicate with various client groups considered a plus

 
This position will report jointly to the Director Admissions & Marketing and to the GESS Fund Board and will work closely with other departments such as Marketing & Communications and the academics to gain a strong knowledge of the academic and research programs in order to identify and define priorities to be funded through private support.
