Arts and Design Technician

GESS has strong European foundations and believes in developing confident, forward-looking students through a celebration of respect, openness and inclusiveness. GESS is recognised for its languages and offers a choice between two main curricula: the German Abitur or the English-speaking International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. The school caters to students of all ages, starting from 18 months to graduation at 18 years. GESS is a private school association led by an elected committee and the school management. Currently, more than 300 full and part-time staff are employed at the school. A new purpose-built campus with brand new facilities will open in August 2018 at Dairy Farm Road.

This position is a Full time position, Monday-Friday. The successful candidate will assist and support specialist Design and Art teachers. The ideal candidate should have an enthusiasm for design, the arts and creativity and be able to work alongside students.

  • Organise and maintain safe and tidy Art, Design, CAD studios and Maker Space.
  • Carry out regular preventive maintenance and servicing of tools and equipment
  • Ensure machinery, equipment are in good safe working condition for use at all times.
  • Ensure resources stores are adequately stocked and materials prepared prior to lessons.
  • Carry out regular inventory checks and update inventory and budgetary information
  • Prepare class rooms for lessons
  • Provide guidance to students during lessons as required, in close collaboration with the subject teacher
  • Undertake other adhoc design technology tasks as assigned, such as construction of teaching aids.
  • Proficiency in the use of wood, metal and plastic machinery
  • IT experience of CAD-CAM equipment, 3D Printing and laser cutters – essential
  • Proficiency in PC and Mac skills, the use of CAD software and other design software: Adobe Fusion 360, Google SketchUp, Photo-shop, 2DV2 Design
  • Ability to work independently, be well organized and show initiative
  • Ability to be flexible and prioritise workload
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player with a positive working attitude
  • Work experience in a school setting advantageous: it is essential that the candidate can work alongside children
  • Articulate and effective written and oral communication in English
